Cake Smash is a fun experience and photoshoot to mark your baby's first birthday! The first year is one of the most rewarding, but also the hardest, and something to be celebrated. A Cake Smash photoshoot is the perfect way to celebrate this special milestone.
The first year of your baby’s life is the most incredible one. With every “first”, and every change you've experienced together in the past year, worth capturing forever. Bring your little one along to my photography studio in West Malling. They can mess the cake and eat it, and the best part is…… I clean all the mess!
Upon booking I will ask you for your preferences for your Cake Smash. Some choose a balloons or flowers (maybe to match the colours of their upcoming party, or their bedroom decor? Or if you can't decide, why not keep it 'all about the baby' and go with a beautiful timeless plain white set up. All Cake Smashes are tailor made to you.
When should I book?
Your child's cake smash session will happen around 2-3 weeks before their birthday. This will allow enough time to do the session, view the gallery and then the final editing process.
What is included in the session?
The session includes a cake, balloons and choice of outfits for your child. You also get some simple portrait shots before we start the cake smash.
What if my child has allergies/dairy intolerance?
If your child has any food allergies or intolerances, please let me know as I ask that the parent provides the cake for the session. This just has to be a simple sponge cake. No toppings or colour icing is required.
What should my child wear?
I have a selection of simple outfits for the cake smash session that photograph beautifully and fit into my timeless vision. You can bring along an outfit of choice for your childs portrait images before we start the cake smash.
Can siblings come along?
No, I ask that only 2 adults attend the session. This session is solely focused on the baby and their birthday shoot. The less distractions the better, a 1 year old can lose focus very quickly. I have also found from pass experiences that siblings want to join in and also smash cake or taste it and it isn't fair to tell them 'your not allowed' while the baby is.
What if my baby doesn't co operate?
It is common for babies to not enjoy the cake and that's fine. We can let them touch it, hold some or even hide some familiar snacks like milky buttons/skips or fruit in the back of the cake to help them get stuck in.
What should I bring?
Please bring a towel, a drink for your child and whatever familiar snacks they usual have to hide in the cake incase they need some encouragement.
In the images above, Patience began as with all my Cake smashes with her First Birthday Portraits and she did not disappoint. Her beautiful smile and poses just made me melt. Mum and Dad were right next to her at all times as with every session here and couldn’t stop giggling at her cute little character. Like many 1 year olds, Patience just loved to play with something in her little hands and her main choice of the day was the balloons. Patience liked the feel of the icing and the cake in-between her fingers over the taste of the cake itself!
